Cycling in Baker County Oregon is a bicyclist’s paradise with three Oregon Scenic Byways, the Grande Tour Scenic Bikeway, boast of scenic back roads and great trails. There are also several great biking events, including the Baker City Cycling Classic and Anthony Lakes Mountain Bike Festival.

Baker City Cycling Classic

Baker County’s signature cycling event is the Baker City Cycling Classic a 3 day, 4-stage bicycle race in Baker City and the surrounding Elkhorn Mountains. The Baker City Cycling Classic is headquarted at Baker High School in Baker City, making for racer-friendly logistics. The scenic road stages are challenging and allow for strategic racing, but a no-time-cut policy means that newer riders can focus on finishing the spectator-friendly time trail and  create an exciting atmosphere for participants, teams, and family. With quality fields from all over the Western US and Canada.

The third and final day features an epic climb through the Elk-horn Mountains to Anthony Lakes Ski Resort. This route serves as both the final stage of this four day race and as the Gran Fondo route for those looking to enjoy a challenging but noncompetitive ride.

For those more interested in mountain biking, Baker County has a variety of mountain bike trails for riders of all skill levels with extensive trail systems at Phillips Lake, Anthony Lakes Ski Resort, and Virtue Flats. Anthony Lakes Ski Area

Anthony Lakes Ski Area also hosts an annual mountain bike festival the First weekend in August.  Riders can take the chairlift to the top of the mountain and ride down, test demo bikes, and enjoy live music at the end of the day of great riding.

Riding the entire bikeway or just a portion, cyclists will be surrounded by Northeast Oregon’s stunning beauty.
